I am not sure what the part I need is called? |
| Go to our "Parts Selector" and you can view some of the more common parts sold by recyclers. | ||
I cannot find the part I need in the drop box or I searched for a common part and it is not available. |
For some smaller items, such as a molding or items that are part of an assembly, they may not be sold separate. You may consider looking up the part (such as a door or fender) that the part you need is bolted on to. Read the Recycler's description and price. If the main part such as a door etc., is in poor condition or is expensively priced compared to the cost of the part you need, you may contact the recycler and ask if they will sell the part you need off the assembly they have. Example: you need a molding or mirror for a 1992 Camry. There is no listing for the molding or you searched for a mirror and there was not one available. Search for a door and if the molding you need is worth $70 and the entire door is $100, you may contact the recycler to see if they will sell the molding off the door. If the molding is $30 and the cost of the door is $300, the recycler would probably not be interested in selling the molding off the door. |

Why won't the Recycler sell the door handle off a door? |
| Often times if a Recycler sells smaller components of a part, such as a door (which may consist of a power window motor, latch, door handle regulator, etc.) he will not be able to sell the higher priced assembly because when he goes to sell the door etc., assembly the repair shop may need that part also; or the labor involved to exchange that part will encourage him to purchase the more complete assembly elsewhere. Most Recyclers sell the glass, handle etc. off a door that is damaged or otherwise not sellable as a complete assembly. | ||
| My part was not available will anyone try to locate it for me? | ||
Yes, if you did not match your part, it may still be available as a replacement from another year or model. The result screen that says your part was not located has an email button to click on and this will set up an email to be sent to each recycler that is interested in locating parts not directly available or matched. When sending this email you may want to include any additional information you have on your part requested such as which side the part is for (right or left), your vehicle vin number and also your address or at least city, state, country and postal zip code so the Recyler can figure shipping cost etc. when contacting you. |

I have a Datsun and cannot find it in your make. |
Datsuns are listed under Nissan with the model being the same as the model used by Datsun. If you cannot locate your make, you may email us to request it be added or we may direct you to where it is. |
I have an Oldsmobile 98 or other vehicle with a listing, but my model is not listed. |
| If your make is listed but not your model, search in the "Oldsmobile Other" or your make "Other" category and look for your model in the Recyclers description. | ||
Why do I need a range of years? |
If you know what year parts are the same as the parts you need you may search the complete year range one time. Example: you have a 1990 Honda Accord and you need a hood. You may look up a 1990-1993 Accord hood since they are the same for all 4 years. |
How do I know what year range to look up for my car? |
Most parts are not specific to one year, one model, for interchangeability. You may have personal knowledge what years interchange or some may have a crash guide (such as Mitchell or Motor) or some may have an interchange manual (such as Hollander®# or Mitchell) that has the year, range interchangeability. Car-Part.com has this interchangeability built into its system now, using the Hollander®# Interchange®#. If after you send your first search in, you get a question about your part, when you answer that question it will pull up interchangeable parts. If it asks you for a year range, there is not a interchange built in for that part. You may enter the year range if you know what is compatible, or look up an exact year only. Prior to purchase, you should contact the recycler to verify it is the correct part for your car. |

Why does a Recycler display a part that says "broken or core" right in the description? |
| Recyclers often times put an engine or other defective part in their inventory so they can sell smaller parts from that part or sell that part to someone to be rebuilt or repaired. | ||
I called a Recycler on a part and it was not much cheaper than a new one. |
Some smaller and less expensive parts are better purchased new because of the labor that is involved to remove and locate a smaller or less expensive part. Some Recyclers minimum charge varies from $5.00 - $50.00. |
I located a part and contacted the Recycler and they said they did not have the part I needed. |
When you search a part by year, make, and model, you may locate a part available but you still need to verify it is the part needed for your vehicle. You may be able to do this by reading the Recyclers description if listed. For a complete explanation of options and abbreviations, etc., see "Options" section and/or the "Damage Codes" Section. Example: You need a left front door on a 1990 Corolla, 4 door, sedan. You do a parts search and it brings up a door with the description "Maroon, 2DR,RH,P,T". You would know this was not the correct door for your vehicle because this one is for a 2DR and yours is a 4DR and you need a left and this one is a right (RH). |
Why does a Recycler display a windshield on their website and when I contacted them, they said they don't ship windshields? |
Even though an item may not be shippable, a Recycler may still want it on their website so that customers that are closer to them are still aware the parts are available and for sale. Shipping prices will vary with each Recycler. |
I located a part for my vehicle and there was a big difference in price. Is the lower priced one bad? |
Not necessarily, prices are usually based on a combination of costs, supply, and demand. One Recycler may have numerous parts that are not in as great a demand in their area. Example: a Recycler in Minnesota may have a surplus and sell an Air Conditioning Compressor for less money than a Recycler in Florida because there is a greater demand for the part in Florida. Prices will also vary based on the warranty received even though the parts maybe equal at the time of sale. The shipping cost may also affect total cost to you. |
Why do some parts say "$ call" by the price? |
Although Car-Part.com believes it is better to display a price so the potential customer may have a better estimate if he is interested in the part, and/or if, it is economically feasible for them to purchase the part, some Recyclers would rather let the customer just know the part is available. After contacted by the customer, a particular Recycler may want to give the customer all the options available with the costs. Different options may include the assessories left with the part; parts with higher miles or less than their standard warranty or an extended warranty option may all change the prices. |
