Checkmate®* Inventory Upload Instructions
A. Introduction
-
In the instructions below, Bold Type represents what actually gets
typed on the computer and ENTER means simply hit the ENTER key on
the keyboard.
-
You will be working with 2 computers. The Checkmate®* Computer with your
Inventory and a computer connected to the Internet. The Internet Computer
is usually a Windows 95 Computer but can be any computer with an Internet
Connection so we will refer to it below as Your Internet Computer.
-
Download PKZIP compression software if you don't already
have it (See section B for details). Compression speeds the process up
considerably!
-
Save Your Inventory to the hard drive from Checkmate®*,
(See section C for Details).
-
Compress Inventory Files onto a Floppy Disk and transfer the
Inventory Files to your Internet Computer. See section D for details.
-
Using The Netscape Navigator Web Browser, upload the
files from Your Internet Computer to Your Web Site. See section E for
details. If you use The Internet Explorer Web Browser, it doesn't have
the capabilities that the Netscape's Browser has so you can follow the
DOS ftp upload instructions in section F or the WS
FTP upload instructions in section G if you have the software.
-
Inform Car-Part.com you have uploaded your inventory and it will soon be
searchable on the web.
B. Download Compression Software (Optional)
-
Section B Steps 2 - 14 are performed on the Internet Computer and Steps
15 - 23 are performed on your Checkmate®* computer and will result in Checkmate®*
being inaccessible for about 5 minutes.
-
Inventory Files can be large, ranging from 6 Megabytes to 50 Megabytes
depending on how many parts are inventoried. PKZIP is a popular shareware
compression tool that runs on DOS. On average, PKZIP compresses the Inventory
Files to 20% of their original size. PKZIP can save compressed files across
multiple Floppy Disks, therefore, if your Inventory size is greater than
25K parts, you simply use more Floppy Disks.
-
PKZIP is installed on your Checkmate®* System and on Your Internet Computer.
-
Compressing the Inventory Files makes it easy to transfer Inventory from
your Checkmate®* Computer to your Internet Computer and makes uploading Inventory
data onto your Web Server 5 times faster!
-
PKZIP is a shareware utility that provides very good compression.
We simply provide the PKZIP download for free. If you are interested in
PKZIP registration benefits, see the PKWARE
Web Site from the authors of PKZIP.
